Manufacturing Engineer

What you’ll do:

  • Participate as a multi-disciplined engineering team to develop and execute manufacturing audit plans for new launch vehicle entrants. Responsibilities include: assessments of engineering design, systems analysis and design, sub-system level to system level test and integration, etc. for all phases, systems, programs and or products from less complicated, single focus activities to extremely complex and highly diverse activities.
  • Assess new launch vehicle entrant compliance with applicable Air Force, Department of Defense, and commercial best practices, requirements, and policies.
  • Apply engineering principles and methods to assess and evaluate manufacturing processes to include: product/process design, producibility, process qualification/validation, requirements flow down, manufacturing process requirements/ documentation, product and process controls, measurement and test, product/ process audits, statistical applications, configuration management, and lean manufacturing.
  • Assess, capture, and track certification manufacturing engineering status, risks, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Interface with certification representatives to include USAF, Government, New Launch Entrant, FFRDC, and other Government agencies.
  • Compile and evaluate manufacturing data to determine adequacy of the product or process as compared to requirements and specifications.
  • Apply quality assurance processes to all certification products, reports, and reviews.
  • Report to the Manufacturing Engineering Lead on status of manufacturing engineering activities and products.
  • Manage assigned technical and programmatic priorities in relation to customer technical and programmatic priorities.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, strong written, communication, oral presentations skills, and ability to lead group discussions.
  • May work with classified documents which requires thorough knowledge of DoD procedures for the proper usage and safeguarding of classified information.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What you’ll need:

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering, Math, or Physical Sciences or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the manufacturing of complex aerospace systems/subsystems.
  • Familiarity with industry and government specifications & standards and the requirements contained therein that guide the design, build, & qualification of complex aerospace systems.
  • Specific experience with launch vehicles, highly desired.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing engineering (ME) principles, tools, methods, and standards.
  • The candidate must be willing to take initiative, be able to complete tasks in a timely manner, possess good interpersonal and project management skills, have the ability to multi-task, plan, and be able to represent the ME role in cross-functional meetings and to customers.
  • Record of high level of organizational and communication skills, and a capacity for attending to details.
  • Experience with auditing to industry standards and organizational processes.
  • Ability to objectively communicate issues and influence positive outcomes in potentially.
  • Experience interfacing with computer-based database and schedule tools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% time.
  • In addition to the typical educational and experience requirements, a demonstrated capability to adequately perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the position and exhibit the skills and competencies of the grade level should be considered. Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Successful applicant for this position must be eligible to obtain a DoD clearance. A current DoD clearance is not required to be eligible for this position, however the successful applicant will be required to obtain a DoD clearance within a reasonable time after the offer is extended and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance. * US Citizenship is Required
